Miles For Migraine DC

Washington, DC

A Miles for Migraine event includes a 1 mile walk, 5K run, and 10K run. We are focused on raising awareness that migraine is not “just a headache”. Migraine is in fact a serious neurological disease with debilitating effects on the Migraine patient, as well as their family and friends.

Our event attracts the patient with Migraine or headache and their family members and friends who want to come out and support the cause as well as serious runners and weekend racers too. Whether you walk or run - as a team, with a family member or all alone with just your thoughts - you’ll be surrounded by the wonderful camaraderie from participants, volunteers and the Miles for Migraine team.

Miles for Migraine is dedicated to raising awareness and funding for Migraine and headache disorders. Money raised through our events is donated directly to fund Migraine and headache research and fellowship programs in this city. Learn more at our beneficiaries page.

Our new 5K and 1 Mile courses in Washington, D.C. traverse Ohio Drive in West Potomac Park just a few yards north of the parallel Potomac River. In mid-October, some surrounding foliage is changing to yellow and orange, but the huge willows on the river side sweep the ground with their long still-green branches. Ohio Drive is totally flat as it sits just a few feet above the tidal Potomac, with the exception of a small hill just for the 5K runners as they cross a little bridge over the channel from the Tidal Basin to the river. One Milers turn around a few yards before the bridge, while 5K runners continue on Ohio Drive into East Potomac Park.  Still with the Potomac on their right as they proceed to the turn around, National Airport can be seen across the water. This section of the park is lined with the famous cherry trees that bloom in April. It’s a perennially breezy part of Washington, D.C., but the weather here in mid-October is typically mild and clement. If you are looking for your lifetime P.R. 5K, this course – weather cooperating – is a great place for it.
